New Corvair Crankshaft - Status and Ordering Process

We are ready to move forward with the first phase of our crank project.
 

Phase 1 – **ORDER NOW** Corvair Stock Crank Replacement Kit

 

This crank is a stock replacement and will work with all current components being used.  It is made of Timken 4340 QA Billet, CNC machined heat treated and Ion Nitrided.  We enlarged the radius between the main and rod pins and the face of each throw.  This will require chamfering the rod and main bearings (service included with the kit).  The increase in fillet radius is a critical step in eliminating fatigue induced cracks.  The cross section of each throw is increased for added stiffness.  The crank is threaded for a safety shaft and ready to use.  This will be the finest Corvair crankshaft available, showcasing meticulous attention to detail and surface finish.

 

The cost is more than we strived for but after exploring many manufacturing options this is what we can offer.

  • Clevite 77 main and rod bearings chamfered for large journal fillet radius

Phase 2 – Corvair Stroker 3250cc Kit

 

For those who want an extreme Corvair aircraft conversion we are working to offer a complete 3250+ cc engine kit. This kit will include the following:

 

  • 4340 Billet Stroker Crankshaft with larger DIA crank and rod pins
  • 5th bearing with single piece crank gear/5th bearing journal
  • New billet connecting rods with larger journals and ARP rod bolts bushed for floating pins
  • New Ross forged pistons
  • New 92 MM Cylinders
  • Dowel pin crankcase halves and include new case bolts
  • Dowel pin 5th bearing housing
  • Line bore 5th bearing housing and case to larger bearing
  • Install all new cylinder head studs
  • Engine Bearings

Estimated kit pricing, at this time, is under $7500. Once the kit is proven (i.e. flying on the Panther prototype) and we have all suppliers sourced we will have firm pricing available.

 

A completed engine including the Corvair Stroker 3250CC Kit will likely be available through FlyCorvair.com in the future.
