Spar drilling position

What Tony shows is essentially the way I did mine. You shouldn't have to use much force on the drill, if you do, you probably need a new bit. If worried about bending, you can put a 3rd block in the center, bit harder to shim.

Thanks Tony! I couldn't remember if only two blocks on either end were enough support to prevent flex. That looks super easy and leaves room for stack clamps.

Started marking drill holes on spars with pen last night. But what is ideal position on table for drilling? If I keep the spar vertical on the table (like in the wing), the entire spar is in contact with a level surface, but it is hard to drill with bit horizontal.

If I place the spar on its side, there is a taper on the outboard end on the only side that doesn't have stuff sticking out of it, so I would need to put shims under the outboard end to support it, so the entire structure is level.

Thoughts from those who have drilled them already?
