Well, my confirmed "good year" engine, while it had a good crank turns out to have an unusable case. One of the studs had been helicoiled at some point and that job must not have been good because someone then put a nail through the loose helicoil to prevent it from spinning. I can't even figure out how that is possible. And of course I could not see this until I split the case and washed off some of the gunk.
Anyway, I have a second pretty good looking case which came with the other motor. However, it is a-ZN suffix which could be a good case or could be an older small case. WW says in his manual the only way to tell is by seeing what crank comes out of it. Since I don't have a crank (or any other components) for this engine I am wondering if there is some other way to tell what year/displacement it is.
What Corvair engine do I have?
