Brent,

Thanks! I can check it digitally. I appreciate the response. Seems like a good number for them
to put in the plans, BM etc. if that is the target so builders can check it as there is always variation in build tolerance from one model to another.

It's not mention in either. Manuel says to to mount HT bracket flush with top of spars. I know this info from talking with Dan and Bob Wooley and checking my own HT incidence angle.

Brent, thank you! Where is the .5 down mentioned in builders manual or plans? I didn't see any reference to target. I am going to put an o-200 or o-235 on it.

Chris,
First the horizontal is not made to be level with the longerons. The front HT mounts should be flush with the HT front spar and the rear HT mounts should be flush with the rear spar. This will give you .5 deg down incidences on the HT checked at tooling holes.I found this to be a little to much down incidence for the Corvair engine installation but probably OK for Lycoming.

Hi Christopher-- I'm also in the middle of mounting the HT & V stabs ---I'm by no means trying to sound like I know
what the answer is here --but one thing you could do is check the HT to be level at the outer rib by leveling tooling holes with a bolt stuck in each one and set a bubble level for& aft on them --parallel with top fus. longerons--hope this helps

Horizontal tail mounts

Assuming that the HT is supposed to be level with the cage/fuselage/longerons, the HT spars should be at 90 degrees relative to the deck as they are vertical. The front HT mounts shoukd also have a 90 degree mounting surface. However, when everything is adjusted properly, the top of my HT mount is well below the top of the spar stiffener, which is supposed to to be where it aligns. If the mount aligns flush with vertical spar and horizontal deck, the top is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch away from the top of spar stiffener. Should I just use this, assuming the HT is level? The rear HT mounts are drilled into deck, and sitting flush with clamps against HT rear spar.

One of the big crucial fits, so I want to get it right.
