The builder's manual specifies to secure to blocks, checking for no twist prior to riveting. My understanding is there is enough slop in the rivets that the structure needs to be checked for straight & square and maintained this way to avoid introducing twist during riveting.

I e-mailed Dan about when to cut off the extensions when I was doing the HT. He suggested to cut them after riveting, but leave the rivets around the extensions out, then slide a thin scrap of AL in between the skin and rib/spar (as a protector) and trim the flange with a Dremel tool.

Rick,

I had to go back to my web site to see when I cut them off. It was just before I started riveting.

However, you must remember that my only credentials are that I "stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night".

Can the spar/flange extensions on the VT and HT be cut off after drilling all holes and before riveting?
