Wayne Richmond’s Panther SN040

Wayne Richmond lives in New Zealand and has been flying his Panther SN040 since January.  He sent this note over (it has been long overdue for sharing) along with some amazing photos of his Panther.  Congratulations Wayne!  Beautiful Panther!

Hi Dan, Rachel & team,

Here are a couple of pics of my Panther with a short update.  Unfortunately, been a while but have been flat-out building aircraft for other people & training new pilots at our club. Also building Panther SN043 / a Sonerai/ repowering a Spitfire /repowering a Waiex (it is amazing how you get busier when you retire!)   My Panther SN040 was built over a period of 18 months while working on other projects. Purchased a couple of engines & O/H first-life engine for the Panther.

The engine is a 0320 B2C Lycoming/. Vetterman 4 pipe ex/ 2x mags/ lightweight starter/ Odyssey 680 batt/  APP Prop (wood/comp, manufactured New Zealand.) Leather seats/ Harness pads/strobes.

Instruments ASI/ ALT/ VSI / GT50/Vert compass/ Rieker bank ind/ MGL E1 Engine inst/ FL-760 A trans/Trig TT22 ADSB set up/ Garmin 760.

Painted by my son, color is Torch Red [to match my car] with red bull racing decals.

Performance 2150 FPM/ 160kts 2500rpm 1000ft ASL. ZK-PWR is based on my home field. Runway 360 mts long. Easily lands & T/O 250mts. My Sonerai struggles as the landing speed is too high (no flaps).  I just clicked over 40 hrs, no trim adjustments required apart from small static rudder trim (feet off pedals stays in center).

My Panther build was really a lot of fun. I completed the entire project in my two car garage then moved it to the airport for the first flight. I always get comments over the radio about what a great looking plane it is. It's a real blast to fly.

I was able to build my Panther in my basement and carried the finished pieces up one at a time through my living room and kitchen into a tiny 1 car garage where it now sits with its wings folded. The folding wings will allow me to share a hangar and transport it to any field for flight testing. I can't imagine building anything else in my limited space.

Paul spent a lot of time with my friend and I on the Panther. Looks to be a great new product and I came away feeling confident they are building and supporting a very strong, safe, and well built plane.

After working with Rachael and Dan on getting my Corvair engine going for my Sonex, I have decided to build a Panther. Here's why: the support is outstanding! Phone calls are answered and texts are responded to almost immediately! After experiencing building three different aircraft from three different companies and presently converting the Sonex, I can say this from experience....these guys are first class!!
