AN426, MS20426 Solid rivet 100 degree countersunk head

AN426 spec was replaced by MS20426 specification in 1969

Materials:        ‘A’ – 1100-F aluminum (very soft)

‘AD’ – 2117-T4 aluminum alloy (most common)

         ‘B’ – 5056-H32 Aluminum alloy

         ‘E’ – 7050-T73 Aluminum alloy

         ‘T’ – 45Cb Titanium Columbium alloy

Diameter code: diameter is in 1/32” increments, a 3 diameter is 3/32”

         Range from 2/32” (1/16”) to 8/32” (3/8”) in diameter

Length code: length is in 1/16” increments, a -5 is 5/16” long

         Range from 2/16”( 1/8”) to 48/16” (3”) long

Half sizes: if there is a -5 after the length code, then the rivet is an additional 1/32” long

(Example: MS20426AD3-3-5 is a 3/32” 2117 aluminum rivet that is 3/16”+1/32” long (7/32”)

For proper length to form tail, add 1.5 times the diameter of the rivet to the total thickness of the material being riveted.

Current spec:  NASM 20426 (still uses MS20426 for part number)

Example:        MS20426AD3-3 is a 3/32” 2117 aluminum rivet that is 3/16” long

         MS20426AD4-4 is a 4/32” (1/8”) 2117 aluminum rivet that is 4/16” (1/4”) long

         MS20426AD6-10 is a 6/32” (3/16”) 2117 aluminum rivet that is 10/16” (5/8”) long

AN470, MS20470 Solid rivet protruding head

AN426 spec was replaced by MS20426 specification in 1968
