We have had a great deal of people asking us about the Cougar. Even though the Cougar prototype is still a glimmer in Dan’s eye he has done most of the engineering along side the Panther.
Just to give some of you Cougar fans a taste of what the Cougar will look like Dan drew up a side view along with the specs. Happy Holidays!
Any guess at when sub-kits for it might ship? You are doing an awesome job on the Panther and I totally understand you want to get it out the door first.
Thanks
The Panther subkits are starting to ship now.
Dan told me at Osh that the Cougar would be about 40″ longer for tandem seating. The side view shows that the stretch works well visually. Doubtless the internal ergonomics will continue the Panther standard. I’ll certainly want a set of plans at some future date.

The fuselage will be about 16″ longer, and the wing will be longer as well.
Then I will be able to use a shorter trailer……….
Yes sir! I think you may be thinking of the additional wing length with the 40″
For unknown reason(s) I’m not seeing the side view of the Cougar ?

Will the engine used in the Cougar prototype be the 3 liter Corvair as used in the Panther? Will the Cougar firewall forward need to be any different than the Panther (including cowling, etc.)?
Thank You
Rick H
The engine can be a Corvair 3.0L, we shall see what the Cougar prototype gets. The firewall should not have to change, or the cowling – but too early in the game to say that with certainty.

My preference is that the pilot would fly solo from the rear seat, because:
a) I like to keep an eye on my passenger,
b) The center of gravity will not move much between one pilot and pilot plus passenger
c) Which helps the airplane maintain the same feel in pitch empty and loaded
d) Forward visibility tends to improve.
e) For the price and weight of one set of instruments, two people can view (not for everybody, but it works well in the Christian Eagle)
What are you thinking Dan?

Front seat is the only way to go! I’ve flown many tandem airplanes including the T-38, T-28, T-6, Stearman, Extra 300, Pitts S-2B, Eagle, Citabria and many more. Hands down the only place for solo flight is the Front seat. I sincerely hope you design the Cougar that way. I also believe that the Cougar would absolutely outsell the Panther so I hope you will begin production on the Cougar Soon. I know several friends including myself waiting to buy it!

Will cougar be tri gear?
The only place to be when flying solo is in the front seat, the best seat in the plane! 99% of the time there is no one in the back seat anyway. The front seat is the fun seat the only seat that counts!
Will the Cougar have a tri gear version?
Yes – sure will!
