Spar Bushing Installation

1.Verify hole is clear of any paint or primer.  Make sure there are no ridges in hole.  The bushing is an interference fit.  It is about 0.002” larger than hole.

Apply light machine oil 3-in-1 or equivalent to bushing, inside of hole, bolt threads and nut.

2.Insert bolt with a ½” washer under the head of bolt into the bushing as shown below.  The flange of the bushing P5701 is always on the side of the ¼” spar stiffeners with the supplied aluminum washer between bushing flange and the spar stiffeners.

3.Install nut and a ½” washer onto bolt on other side of spar as shown below.

4.Tighten nut using 3/4'” deep well socket and ½” breaker bar and holding bolt with ¾” wrench.   Keep the threads well lubricated.  Continue tightening until end of bushing is flush with the wing spar.

NOTE: Do not turn the bolt, bolt could catch inside bushing and jam.

5. Once bushing is flush with the bottom of the spar, remove nut and 1/2” steel washer and lubricate threads.  Add a ¾” steel washer, reinstall ½” steel washer and nut.  Center ¾” washer on bushing to allow bushing to come through center of steel washer.  Tighten until aluminum washer and head of bushing are tight against spar stiffeners.clip0016

6.At end holes, you can let the ¾” washer overlap spar cap as shown, which will cause the washer to bend. Or you can cut an edge off the washer so it fits flat.  But keep the ¾” washer centered over bushing in either case.

7.Repeat the above steps for all 4 bushings.
