Attaching the Canopy Skirt to the Canopy Bubble with Screws

Scroll Prev Top Next More

Note: We recommend some sort of adhesive or sealer between the skirt and frame. This servers many purposes, like spreading the load more evenly, and sealing water out during rain or washing the aircraft.  You also need to attach the canopy bubble to the skirt using the screws.  Instructions below.

1.Layout a pattern for holes with even spacing approx. 5 inches apart and 3/8-1/2 inch (9.6-12.8mm) from the inside edge of skirt.

2.Working from front to rear, alternating side to side drill and cleco the skirt/bubble #40

3.We recommend up drilling to 1/8 inch and counter sinking slightly deeper than usual for a 6-32 finishing washer. This gives the screw a little room to accommodate expansion and contraction.

Note:  If you did not bond the canopy in with adhesive then some scraps of 1x2 (or similar) cut the length to act as “spreaders” to hold bubble against frame can help while drilling.

Note: you can now attach the skirt to the frame permanently and do final prep for paint etc.
